二、个人陈述，也就是通常所说的PS，即Personal Statement

2 你为什么要选择入读这所学校
3 我们学校为什么要录取你而不是别人

PS即Personal Statement（个人陈述，也叫自荐信），写PS的作用是帮助学校进一步了解学生是否适合本学校、本专业的学习。国外大学挑选学生，主要本着两方面的考虑：学术成绩和个人能力。学术成绩就是学生在申请学校时提交的一系列以数据为表现形式的成绩单，而个人能力主要通过PS和Reference体现出来。如果说成绩单是一次笔试，那么PS就是一次面试，两者相结合才能跨过名校的门槛。目前申请时需要递交PS的有英国、美国、香港的全部大学和加拿大的部分大学。二、PS的灵魂是什么这个问题必须写在前面，因为只有弄清楚这个问题，你才能在准备所有申请文书的时候，站得比别人高，看得比别人远。能打动人的PS都有一个共同点，就是有灵魂！这个灵魂不在于华丽的语言，不在于奇特的经历，也不在那些排名奖项的堆积，而是你对于申请领域的喜爱和了解！举个例子，一篇应用数学的PS，写他参加的一个又一个数学建模竞赛的经历，语言非常朴实，也没有说什么我GPA多少啊，我排名之一啊，但是很打动人心，因为从里面真的可以看出他对数学建模的热爱。我觉得他写得很好，其实所有别的申请材料，成绩单、简历都是理性的，有什么、多少分都是明明白白摆在那儿的，而PS是唯一一个可以抒发感情，可以打动人心的东西，我觉得这才是PS独特的意义。
